Kulhudhuffushi residents file petition seeking solution for housing woes

Residents of Kulhudhuffushi have filed a petition with Kulhudhuffushi Island Council, with an appeal to solve the housing problems the community faces.

The petition, with 500 signatories, asked the local council to solve housing problems the community has been facing since 2006. The petition also details the proposed solution to the issue. It notes while there are over 1,500 people who are in need of housing, the 200 land plots that have been opened for applications will not be enough.

The petition notes the island has enough land to commission 500 land plots, excluding the green zone. The petition also proposes flats to be constructed at the Veligandu Area in the island.

President of Kulhudhuffushi Island Council Abdul Latheef Hassan told PSM News the issue can be solved by the relevant ministries. Members of the island community who lead the initiative told PSM News the petition has been mailed to other relevant government authorities, including the President's Office.
