Maldives have concluded two-day regional workshop on sharks and rays hosted in preparation for upcoming 18th Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES).
A workshop on CITES implementation covered areas such as legislation, enforcement and inclusion of species in the CITES. In this regard, Maldives supported including three types of sharks, including Longfin Mako Shark in the Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade on Endangered Species.
The two-day workshop was attended by 10 countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The workshop is conducted under CITES which is an international agreement between governments which aim to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
