Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has revealed easier arrangements would be made in importing staple foods and aggregate from India, beginning next week. Minister Shahid made the remarks, speaking on a programme aired on PSM News.
During the programme, Minister Shahid stated, onions, potatoes, eggs and staple foods are imported to Maldives from India under a certain bilateral agreement, which is renewed annually. However, during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the quota allocated for onions, potato and eggs imported from India was decreased significantly.
Referring to this, Foreign Minister Shahid said, the Indian government will ensure easier arrangement of imports to Maldives for a period of three years within next week. Moreover, Foreign Minister assured import of aggregates to Maldives from India will recommence next week, however, Minister did not disclose any further details.
Foreign Minister assured his commitment to prioritise the foreign policy of the government.
