Health Minister meets OIC Secretary General

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has discussed avenues of cooperation in the health sector with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The discussions were held during a meeting between health minister and the Secretary General of OIC Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen at the OIC Headquarters at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

At the meeting, expansive discussions were carried out regarding the development of the health sector of Maldives. In addition, the health minister discussed the challenges the sector faces and clarified the procedures in place in getting aid from Arab countries.

Minister Ameen travelled to Saudi Arabia to participate in the 4th Global Ministerial Patient Safety Summit. The global event, which brought together health minister from more than 50 countries, was held from March 2-3 and focused on defining strategies that will support the integration of patient safety as an essential element in achieving universal health coverage.

The summit focuses on raising awareness and fostering contextual applicability, increasing public participation in ensuring safety and security of patients, to further strengthen work carried out globally to protect the rights of patients and to discuss areas that need further cooperation.
