Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has revealed efforts to introduce more menus for the school breakfast programme initiated by the administration.
Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Education Minister Aishath Ali expressed the breakfast programme is well received by students and parents. She said while the programme was initially conducted in 25 schools across Maldives, a high number of students have taken part in the programme.
Further, the education minister spoke on the importance of breakfast for growth of students. Noting the programme is closely monitored, the education minister stated efforts are underway to eliminate menus disliked by students.
Moreover, the minister expressed hope to initiate the breakfast programme in all schools with the beginning of the second academic term. The pilot programme was launched on January 13 in 25 schools across the country.
As part of the project, Ministry of Education compiled 10 different menus with the assistance of United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Health Protection Agency (HPA). The breakfast is provided for students of the morning session.
The project, conducted at a cost of over USD 3.234 million from the state budget, is currently inaugurated in 3 schools in Male', 1 school from Villimale' and 1 school from Hulhumale', in addition to 1 school from each atoll.
