Schools to provide therapy for students and establish systems to identify such students

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has stated efforts are underway to establish means in schools to provide therapy for students and systems to identify such students at an early age.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Education Minister Aishath Ali said discussions are currently underway with relevant ministries and authorities to provide necessary services for students with special needs within the school system.

The education minister noted the new department established within the ministry has currently commenced many initiatives. The ministry established a special department to implement inclusive education. The minister noted formulating plans and implementation are underway.

Furthermore, Minister Aishath Ali expressed the inclusive education policy will be amended after an assessment. Noting the importance of identifying students with special needs at an early stage, she said it is crucial that systems are established especially for such students as they spend most of their time in the school environment.

A total of 3,769 special needs students are studying in government schools, according to statistics.
