Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed has revealed the administration aims to install safe water supply pipes to all households in Male' City, within the five-year term. The environment minister stated it will largely decrease the amount of plastic used in households.
Minister Hussain Rasheed made the remarks addressing the ceremony held to mark the completion of Stand Up for Our Seas event at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu Resort in Baa Atoll. Stand Up for Our Seas is a 100 kilometre stand up paddle board tour of Baa Atoll to raise awareness on the protection of marine life.
Speaking at the event, the minister commended the effort to create awareness on marine life. Noting while special projects are initiated to reduce plastics in the country, the minister said the most important work that can be done is reducing the use of plastic water bottles and single use plastics. He expressed the administration will appreciate and accept every initiative by private companies in protecting the environment.
Furthermore, the environment minister noted the significance of the environment of Maldives and expressed every measure must be taken to protect and secure the environment for the future generations.
