Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has revealed handheld camera will be used on Sina-Male' Bridge and the highway, which links Hulhule' and Hulhumale', to determine the speed of vehicles.
Speaking at a programme aired on PSM News, Minister of State for Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Ahmed Adil stated the handheld cameras will monitor the vehicles violating speed regulations and assist as a toll to take necessary actions against violators. He revealed speed cameras will be installed on the bridge and highway in the next two months.
Furthermore, State Minister Adil expressed there are difficulties in identifying the vehicles due to the design of the number plates, adding all plates must be made in plastic.
Meanwhile, the technical survey and research have now been concluded as part of efforts to install surveillance cameras on the bridge. Installing surveillance and speed cameras on the bridge are conducted jointly by Maldives Police Service, Maldives Transport Authority and Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
