Tourist arrivals from the US have increased significantly during last year.
42,901 tourists arrived to Maldives from the US last year, while this is an increase of 9.5% compared to 2018, according to statistics of Ministry of Tourism. In 2017, 39,181 tourists arrived to Maldives from the US. Meanwhile, 2.9% of the total tourist arrivals were from the US.
Over time, the US has become an important market for the tourist industry of Maldives. In this regard, the US is included in the top 10 countries with the most number of tourist arrivals to Maldives.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has exerted major efforts to promote Maldives in the US. In these efforts, MMPRC has announced seeking to hire an agency to represent Maldives in the US.
Furthermore, the number of tourist arrivals in December last year surpassed 1.4 million which is an increase of 6.8% compared to last year. While the administration aims to inaugurate 20 new reports in Maldives, the aim is to attract 1.5 million tourists this year.
