Maldives must initiate fight against climate change: Environment Minister

Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has stated Maldives must stand and initiate in the fight against climate change, attaching importance to it.

Delivering the keynote in the workshop on Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics held in Dhigufaru Resort in Baa Atoll, Environment Minister Hussain Rasheed said climate change is more serious to stay idle without taking preventive measures against the negative impacts of climate change. He noted if no actions are taken the world temperature might ride to 2-3 degrees Celsius in the near future.

Furthermore, the environment minister expressed the impacts of climate change will be mostly experienced in geographically dispersed countries like Maldives. Noting attaching importance to climate change, he said important measures are needed rather than meetings and speeches.

The workshop involves representatives from the President's Office, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The workshop focus on topics including reforms to the UN Climate Talks, and whether small island countries can play a global role in helping to solve the unfolding climate crisis.
