Bangladeshi citizens advised against travelling to work in Maldives

Government of Bangladesh has advised Bangladeshi citizens against travelling to work in Maldives.

Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (EWOE) had advised Bangladeshi citizens not to travel to work in Maldives as the island republic is facing unemployment, according to Bangladesh news outlet New Age Bangladesh. The news outlet further said EWOE ministry advised restrictions were imposed on migration to Maldives following an advice from the Bangladesh Embassy in Maldives. Furthermore, EWOE ministry has asked recruiting agencies to refrain from sending workers to Maldives.

While expatriate workers in Maldives amount to 607,144, a large number is attributed by Bangladesh nationals.
