Healthcare should be perceived as a humanitarian effort: Health Minister

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated if healthcare services is perceived as a humanitarian effort rather than a day job, challenges the healthcare system faces may be overcome. The health minister made the statement addressing the Hospital Managers Forum on Healthcare Challenges held with the objective of strengthening the healthcare system of the country.

Addressing the forum which was attended by managers of regional hospitals and officials of the Ministry of Health, Minister Ameen said it was vital to network all service providers. Thereby, the minister noted the importance of people who import healthcare resources, emergency care provides, pharmacies and private companies that provide healthcare.

At the forum, representatives shared information regarding issues each hospital or faces, and they were in turn informed about the 100-day pledges of the administration with regard to healthcare and projects planned for the next five years, including infrastructure development, work related to emergency evacuation and human resource development.

The two-day forum is attended by representatives of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), ADK Hospital, Aasandha Company Limited, National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), State Trading Organisation (STO) and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
