Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Ahmed Naseer has stated income disparity is one of the greatest challenges Maldives face in achieving economic development. The governor of the central bank made the statement addressing the special function held to launch Maldives Business Standard, an e-paper published for the business beat.
Shedding light on what needs to be done to improve the economy, Naseer said economic and income disparity is an issue that needs to be solved in Maldives. Noting the importance of the citizens' participation in finding solutions, the governor highlighted the important role media could play in increasing awareness among the public on the Maldivian economy. Taking example from other countries, he noted in such cases, economic development was achieved after daring to spend enormously on human resource development.
The function held to launch Maldives Business Standard was attended by former Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Minister of State for Economic Development Neeza Imad and other prominent figures in the field.
