Vice President Faisal Naseem has launched the Villimale' Cleaning Exercise.
The event started at the Police Station area of Villimale’ Island. At the event, the Vice President participated in the cleaning exercise along with the Villimale’ community.
During the cleaning event over 35 tonnes of waste was collected from Villimale'. The event was held jointly by Male' City Council, Maldives Police Service and Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Male' City Council revealed the programme will further serve to ensure cleanliness in Villimale'.
Speaking to PSM News, Male' City Mayor Sifa Mohamed revealed it was identified that a large amount of plastic waste is collected to Villimale’ beach due to current. Sifa advised to keep Villimale' clean as Villimale' have all means to achieve the goal of becoming an exemplary island.
Under the nationwide cleaning campaign, the administration has decided to hold several events throughout the year.
