Vice President Faisal Naseem has visited and enquired about the situation of Arabiyya School.
During his visit, the vice president met with the senior management of the school, where he was briefed on the ongoing work and the challenges faced in carrying out the operations of the school.
The vice president visited the school in the capital city amid protests from several parents due to lack of sufficient teachers at the school.
Speaking on the matter, Director General at Ministry of Education Adam Nasheed told PSM News the issue will be solved within a month. The largest Arabic medium school in Maldives faced difficulties in hiring teachers as Al-Azhar University in Egypt took more time than usual to finalise the teachers’ selection list, according to the official. He said the ministry made changes to the list which played a vital role in the delay of hiring teachers for the school.
Director General Nasheed said the Egyptian University will provide 22 teachers for Arabiyya School. He said although only 4 teachers are currently in Maldives, the university has assured the remaining 18 teachers will arrive in Maldives within a month.
Arabiyya School follows an Al-Azhar University-based syllabus, according to the education ministry. The teachers for Arabiyya School is provided as part of an agreement Maldives has with the government of Egypt. All the arrangements including the salaries are provided to the teachers by Al-Azhar University, according to the agreement.
