Maldives Immigration has held discussions with Male' City Council and Labour Relations Authority (LRA) to solve the issues of expatriates illegally living in Maldives.
The meeting was attended by Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Ahmed Hussain, Male' City Mayor Shifa Mohamed and senior officials from Maldives Immigration, Male' City Council and LRA. Maldives Immigration stated discussions were held on finding a swift solution for the issue, with discussions also focused on social issues faced by expatriates in Maldives.
Recently, Maldives Immigration has revealed while over 150,000 expatriates work in Maldives, 63,000 of them are working illegally without any necessary paperwork. 112 expatriates were deported last year for violating immigration regulations, according to statistics. Meanwhile, 531 expatriates were sent back last year as they did not meet the medical requirements.
Maldives Immigration has begun a special operation named Operation Stingray to solve issues regarding expatriate workers in Maldives.
