Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has revealed all industries should utilise facilities and equipment sustainably, adding irresponsible actions to get temporary benefits would have irreversible consequences.
Addressing the opening ceremony of multi-stakeholder consultation meeting, Environment Minister Hussain Rasheed highlighted the importance of far-sighted thinking to maintain the benefit of the sectors. He noted the importance of utilising sustainable environmental friendly methods in development.
Moreover, the environment minister stated sustainable production is not a foreign concept to Maldives, highlighting sustainable use of equipment in the fisheries sector. He said while the economy of the country is widely based on the tourism, resorts should further prioritise protecting the environment.
Furthermore, the minister expressed while Maldives is a country which debates the most about the impact of climate change and environment in international platforms, it is not believable if Maldivians do not start acting upon it.
The multi-stakeholder meeting is held regarding the new EU Switch-Asia grant programme for proposals themed under the Goal 12, Sustainable Consumption and Production, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
