Health Ministry to establish National Ambulance Services

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has revealed National Ambulance Services will be introduced to provide swift health services to all areas.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Health Minister Abdulla Ameen said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih wishes to introduce the joint network of National Ambulance Services to enhance the health sector. The Health Minister highlighted the services will further assist in saving lives and enhance the ambulance services across the country.

Noting 30 percent of ambulances in Maldives are unused due to lack of maintenance, Minister Ameen revealed a mechanism will also be established to continue services to be provided from all ambulances. The minister added the administration has now commenced compiling the regulation for the mechanism.

Furthermore, highlighting islands in Maldives are geographically dispersed and providing services is a challenge, the minister spoke on the importance of a first aid mechanism established in all areas. He stated efforts to allocate a special number to assist in health situations are underway as part of the initiation to introduce National Ambulance Services.

Moreover, the health minister noted some efforts are underway to familiarise taxi drivers to paramedics to minimise unfavourable situations to passengers.
