President convenes committee to investigate government housing schemes issues

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has convened a committee of 5 members, to investigate all issues related to previous housing projects of the government. The committee was convened on December 19, 2018. The secretariat of the committee will be administered by the Rapid Action Unit of the Policy Office at the President’s Office.

The committee is mandated with undertaking the review of issues related to social housing projects, as included in President Solih’s 100-day goals. The mandate of the newly established committee includes reviewing the lists of those who have secured social housing projects and ensuring all the applicants were scored fairly; and identifying those who were responsible for misconduct in allocating flats under the schemes and recommending follow-up actions to the president. The committee will also counsel the president on ways to compensate for the damages faced by those who have made payments for social housing schemes, but did not acquire flats under the scheme.

The members appointed to the committee to investigate issues related to the previous housing projects of the government include, Mohamed Muizzu Adnan, Fathimath Saira, Nuzuha Aleem, Ahmed Tholal, and Ali Shuhail Mohamed, as a lawyer representing the Attorney General’s Office.
