Number of private jets arriving in Maldives for New Year increase

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) states the number of private jets arriving in Maldives have increased for the New Year season.

MACL revealed the number of private jets increased 15 percent compared to December last year. About 15 private jets on average have landed at Velana International Airport (VIA) every day, according to MACL.

However, MACL stated jets face several challenges when landing due to heavy traffic at VIA, adding some jets are held up in the air for about 20 minutes before landing. MACL expects the commencement of operations of the new runway will permanently solve the issue.

VIA is currently the busiest airport operated in South Asia region.

By November 1.3 million tourists have visited Maldives, according to statistics of Ministry of Tourism. November and December are recorded as the peak season of the tourism industry in Maldives.
