Providing electricity to Addu city is an ongoing challenge

Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has stated sustainably providing electricity to Addu City is an ongoing challenge.

At the ceremony held to award the contract for the design, supply and installation of energy management system and battery storage system of PV diesel hybrid system in Addu city, the minister said currently electricity is provided to Addu City using generators of various sizes, adding it makes providing electricity sustainably to Addu City a challenge. However, he said with the initiation of the project, the problem will get minor solutions.

The government of Japan has provided a fund of USD 263,000 for the project. The installation of energy management system and battery storage system must be completed within one year.
