Advancement of an island is credited to its citizens: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has underlined the advancement of an island is the result of the people's work and the true credit goes to the citizens. President Solih made the remarks while speaking to the people of Ukulhas, as part of his visit to Alifu Alifu Atoll.

Highlighting his electoral pledge of empowering the local councils, President Solih stated decentralisation system of governance was introduced by the new constitution in the effort to empower the councils. He also noted the administration has already begun to deliver on its pledge, by reinstating original powers and responsibilities of the local councils.

The president reiterated the administration does not advocate for all responsibilities and powers to be centralised to the executive government. He said the administration promotes its belief the only way to develop the country is to establish a strong decentralised system of governance.

President Solih further appealed to all councils to work closely with the people in delivering their services. In his speech, the president also highlighted some development projects planned for the future.
