President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reappointed Sheikh Imran Abdulla as the Minister of Home Affairs. The ceremony to present the letter of appointment was held at the President’s Office.
Prior to the presentation of the letter of appointment, Sheikh Imran Abdulla took oath of office before Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Areef.
Speaking to PSM News, Chief Communication Strategist at the President’s Office and the Spokesperson of the President Ibrahim Hood revealed Imran Abdulla resigned on his own accord. However, he took the oath of office later in the day.
The home minister resigned from the position in the wake of criticism as he carried a 12-year jail sentence when he initially took office. However, the Supreme Court had deferred the jail sentence, until it was reviewed, when Imran Abdulla was appointed to the ministerial post on November 17. The Supreme Court nullified the jail sentence on November 22.
