Free breakfast pilot project to commence with academic new year

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has revealed the pilot programme to provide free breakfast for school children will be commenced with the start of the new academic year 2019.

Speaking at a programme aired on PSM News, Education Minister Aishath Ali said preparations are now underway to commence the programme along with the academic year. In this regard, Minister Aishath said currently efforts are ongoing to prepare a healthy lifestyle menu for students aiming to aware children on healthy lifestyles.

Furthermore, the education minister stated the pilot project will be introduced to schools across the country rather than introducing it in just one school. The minister went on to note with the introduction of the pilot project, work will begin to identify the challenges and to commence the project in all schools.

Providing free breakfast to all students is a pledge included to be fulfilled within the first 100 days of the new government. Government has allocated over USD 3.2 million in the state budget for the project.
