Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said new ways must be introduced to make the capital, Male' City greener. Inaugurating the "Let's Green It" project initiated by MI College, the former president revealed Male' can be made greener and developed as a better city for the citizens.
Describing the capital city as a concrete jungle, Mohamed Nasheed said new and innovative ways should be found to make Male' environment friendly. Moreover, Nasheed stated cutting down trees for developmental projects must be stopped, expressing concern over the increased amount of trees removed for developmental projects.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nasheed went on to note if cutting down trees continue; it will negatively impact the future of Maldives. Moreover, the former president highlighted several planting programmes are initiated across the country expressing hope the new initiative by MI college will introduce biological engineering to Maldivians.
MI College initiated the "Let's Green It" project to make the country green and to implement the use of plastic bottles in a way it would protect the environment. During the ceremony, former president Nasheed also inaugurated the indoor greening programme of the college.
