MCGS Huravee returns to Maldives after a refit

The largest ship in the naval fleet of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), MCGS Huravee, has returned to Maldives after a refit. Huravee returned after spending four months in the Visakhapatnam Indian Naval Dockyard. Huravee was taken to Visakhapatnam in July and completed its refit in mid-November.

Speaking at the ceremony held to welcome the ship, Commanding Officer of Huravee Major Mohamed Jamshaad stated during the refit, major repairs were undertaken on the ship's hull, main propulsion and auxiliaries, adding a number of systems and equipment were also upgraded.

Huravee was originally commissioned as INS Tillanchang, a Trinkat class patrol vessel built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, in Kolkata in March 2001, and was subsequently gifted to Maldives by the Government of India in April 2006 to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations and work together to ensure the maritime safety of the Indian Ocean Region.
