President and Vice President meet members of Addu City Council

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem have met with members of Addu City Council.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, members of Addu City Council congratulated President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem on assuming office. Further, members of Addu City Council briefed President Solih on the current developmental challenges being faced, and future development plans for Addu City, especially noting the importance of establishing public service facilities in the city.

Moreover, members of Addu City Council emphasised the importance of a strong decentralised system of governance, with empowered councils. Further discussions were held on establishing clean drinking water, sewerage system, proper electricity services, road development, and enhancing the education system in Addu City. The council members also expressed confidence President Solih’s administration will work closely with the public.

Speaking during the meeting, President Solih briefed the council members on his administration’s policy that targets a number of development projects in Addu City. He also assured the administration will put in every effort to resolve the issues currently being faced, and emphasised the high priority given by the administration on further strengthening the decentralisation system and empowering councils, by revising the relevant policies.

Along with the President and the Vice President some members of the Parliament attended the meeting.
