Coalition leaders hold discussion to form new cabinet

Leaders of the joint coalition have come to a conclusion regarding the cabinet of the new government.

The decisions about the cabinet were made during discussions held by coalition leaders. The discussions were held by President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President-Elect Faisal Naseem, Former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed and Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, as well as President of Adaalath Party Imran Abdulla and Leader of Jumhooree Party Qasim Ibrahim.

Speaking to media following the discussions, President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated the leaders have made some decisions regarding the cabinet of the new government. However, he did not reveal any further details. He expressed the discussions also focused on maintaining the coalition government, adding the leaders also decided to hold one monthly meeting regarding major issues in the country.

Meanwhile, Former Maumoon Abdul Gayoom said making decisions is a sole right of the incoming president, adding the coalition leaders can only give their input and advice. Maumoon expressed hope the discussions will act as a tool to achieve the dreams of the citizens.

Moreover, following the discussions, Former President Mohamed Nasheed highlighted all leaders have agreed to support the decisions of the president-elect, even though the cabinet will consist of all coalition parties.

In addition, Leader of Jumhooree Party Qasim Ibrahim expressed the new government will exert major efforts to eliminate corruption and violence as well as ensure the rights of the citizens.

Further, President of Adaalath Party Imran Abdulla noted if the coalition continue to work as agreed, the country will flourish and will be stable.

While the joint opposition came to a conclusion regarding the cabinet, the president-elect had previously announced a cabinet structure of 19 ministries.
