Shaheem resigns as IUM Chancellor

Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has resigned from the position.

In a tweet announcing his decision to resign from the post, Dr. Shaheem assured he will continue to serve to protect the religion in the country. Dr. Shaheem was appointed as the chancellor in 2016. During his tenure, Shaheem worked to promote Islamic studies and Arabic language. He also exerted efforts to enhance ties with Arab countries.

Shaheem, who served as the Minister of Islamic Affairs in three different administrations, was the running mate of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in the presidential election held on September 23.
