Elections Commission begins confiscating ballot papers

Elections Commission of Maldives has commenced shredding ballot papers and other documents following the conclusion of the presidential election.

Speaking at a press conference, President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef said the ballot papers and other documents which must have been shredded were kept stored at the commission as legal cases regarding the election results were filed at the courts of law. Assuring no illegal activities were conducted before, during and after the presidential election was held; Ahmed Shareef affirmed the commission will continue to do its job fairly, within the limits set in the constitution, laws and regulations.

Ahmed Shareef said the electoral body is now prepared to confiscate the ballot papers and other necessary documentation with the assistance of the relevant authorities.
