World Travel Market (WTM) 2018 has begun in London with over 5,000 exhibitors, including 65 travel and trade companies of Maldives. The mega travel trade event is held at London Excel from November 5-7.
2018 counts as the 34th year in which Maldives is participating in the world renowned WTM to promote and market the country as a tourist destination. The Maldivian delegation at the event this year include 165 travel trade professionals from 65 companies, along with the Maldivian Ambassador to UK and Belgium Ahmed Shiaan and senior officials from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
Speaking to the local media, acting Managing Director of MMPRC Haris Mohamed stated the Maldivian stand was expanded this year, to allow industry stakeholders to deal with business partners with ease. He also spoke on the importance of the European market, especially the British market, to the local tourism industry.
Meanwhile, industry stakeholders from Maldives who are partaking at the event noted WTM is the best platform to further partnerships and business dealing with not only British but also European travel trade professionals. They noted the first day was fruitful with many important discussions held with international partners.
The British market is the third largest tourism market to the country, according to Ministry of Tourism.
