Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) have been fined for illegal extraction and dispensation of water.
MWSC did not request permission before the illegal extraction and dispensation of water in the capital, Male' City, according to a press release by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA accuses MWSC of extracting and dispensing water from the water table of the area on July 11 and July 16, 2018.
In the press release, EPA revealed MWSC has been fined by USD 3,500, in August. In addition, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has also been fined by USD 3,500 for the illegal extraction of water from the western corner of its compound.
The ministry has been instructed to pay the amount in full, within 30 days.
