Minister of Gender and Family Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has stated the elderly is a demographic that has contributed greatly to nation building and their knowledge and experience are important assets for the progress of the nation.
In her nationwide address on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, Gender Minister Zenysha noted the importance of involving the elderly in socio-economic efforts towards national development. The gender minister described the assurance of the physical and well-being of the elderly as a social and familial responsibility.
In her speech, Minister Zenysha noted several policies implemented by the government to ensure the rights of the elderly including provision of healthcare and easy access to healthcare for bedridden elderly patients. The minister also noted the nationwide campaign launched by the ministry to promote participation, protection, and well-being of older persons in the community.
Various activities have been planned to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons in Maldives, according to Ministry of Gender and Family.
