Ministry of Environment and Energy has revealed the target to install renewable electricity generation that meets up to 30% of daytime peak load in all inhabited islands has been reached in 28 islands.
Speaking with PSM News, an official from environment ministry revealed efforts to facilitate the achievement of the target has been completed in 28 islands and the target would be reached in an additional 30 islands by the end of this year. Efforts to install renewable electricity generation that meets up to 30% of daytime peak load in all inhabited islands, is being carried out in other islands as well, at varying stages, the official added. Technical surveys have been conducted in some islands while feasibility studies have been carried out in others, with efforts on contracting parties for the practical work of the projects also underway.
The project was initiated by the government of Maldives with the target of installing renewable electricity generation that meets up to 30% of daytime peak load in all inhabited islands, upon the completion of the project.
