Minister of Legal Affairs at President's Office Aishath Azima Shakoor has revealed the basis of all pledges in the manifesto of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is aimed to not give the opportunity to introduce other religions in Maldives.
Speaking at the Manifesto Forum organised by Maldives National University (MNU) to give the candidates an opportunity to disseminate information about their presidential manifesto, Legal Affairs Minister Azima Shakoor said the manifesto for the next five years is a related addition to the current manifesto implemented by the president.
The legal affairs minister in this regard noted the "Progress Shared" manifesto is interlinked with the current manifesto. Noting there are rules included in the manifesto which focuses on running the government, Azima Shakoor affirmed importance while compiling the manifesto was given to uphold the Islam and to not obstruct introducing other religions. Azima further said a special importance was attached to minimise foreign intervention in internal matters of the country to maintain the sovereignty of the country.
Moreover, during the manifesto forum, the minister stated, tradition, nationalism, social protection, social discipline, peaceful society, constitutional power and equality of law are also included in the manifesto. On conclusion, she attributed the success of the government to the strong importance attached by the president to upholding Islamic principles and values.
The manifesto forum organised by MNU was attended by an influential team of cabinet ministers. All the ministers spoke on their respective areas during the forum.
