The government of Maldives has contracted UAE-based Water Engineering Services FZE to establish drinking water facilities in 32 islands. The agreement was signed by Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim and Director of Water Engineering Services FZE Mohamed Abdul Karim Mohamed Al Dhashti.
Speaking at the ceremony, the environment minister stated the facilities will be established to meet the latest standards. The project is expected to cost over USD 8.6 million.
The establishment of water facilities in 25 islands is funded by the Green Climate Fund, while the establishment of water facilities in the remaining 7 islands will be funded by OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the government of Maldives.
