Maldivians will not support a puppet government: Shaheem

Running mate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said the citizens would not support or encourage to install a puppet government in Maldives by foreign powers. The running mate of the ruling party made the statement while addressing the citizens of Kaashidhoo in Kaafu Atoll, as part of the campaign efforts to re-elect President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to a second term in office.

Addressing the gathering, the running mate highlighted the president continuously work to safeguard the country from foreign influences. Shaheem also noted the development agenda is conducted independently, free from influence from foreign countries and parties, in accordance with the wishes of the people.

The running mate said the upcoming presidential election will determine the future of Maldives, adding it will ensure the sovereignty and the religion of the country. Shaheem said the development agenda of the president, which has rapidly transformed the country will be continued if the current administration secures a second term.

In addition to Kaashidhoo, the running mate of PPM also visited Gaafaru, in the same atoll, where he highlighted the president implements the development agenda of the administration inclusive of all islands and all sectors.

The government has conducted several development projects in Kaashidhoo and Gaafaru in the past five years.
