6 children under state care placed under foster care

Ministry of Gender and Family has revealed 6 children, who were under state care, have been placed under foster care to facilitate the provision of a supportive home and family environment. The children placed under foster care are three boys and three girls between the ages of 5 months and 11 years, who were living at Fiyavathi Shelter in Hulhumale', according to gender ministry.

The ministry said children who are under state care are placed in foster care after careful evaluation of applications by prospective foster parents, by a special panel formulated for the purpose. The panel consists of representatives from relevant sections in the gender ministry and the civil society.

In addition to these children, 20 children who were under state care have been reunited with their families last year, with another 10 children reunited with their families so far this year. Statistics show 141 children are under state care, with 50 children housed in the Children's Shelter in Villingili and 81 children housed at Fiyavathi Shelter in Hulhumale'.
