Sina-Male' Bridge: Revolutionising transportation in the greater Male' region

One of the biggest developmental projects conducted in Maldives, the Sina-Male' Bridge, is expected to usher economic development and revolutionise transportation in the greater Male' region. Prior to the construction of Sina-Male' Bridge, the journey to and from Hulhumale' via ferry, proved to be a difficult feat for many.
Commuters had to risk the journey on troubled waters, regardless of sun or rain. They even suffered through days when ferry services were suspended due to bad weather. However, these are now in the past.
Today, marks the alleviation of all these burdens. When the PSM News team visited the Hulhumale' Ferry Terminal in Male' City, they were met with the sight of an unfamiliar calmness in the usually chaotic venue. Only a few commuters opted for the ferry service. People who took the risk of ferrying their two-wheelers to and from Hulhumale' seemed to have opted for a ride on Sina-Male' Bridge instead.
An official from Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said with Sina-Male' Bridge opened for public transportation, toll free, few opted to pay to ferry vehicles on a boat. However, he assured no changes have been brought to ferry schedules. He said any change, if any, would be brought, only one month after toll fees are charged on Sina-Male' Bridge.
One of the areas where an increase is evident, is in the demand for petrol. With the increase in the number of vehicles on Sina-Male' Bridge, the increase in demand for petrol is expected. Long queues were seen at the petrol sheds in Male’ and in Hulhumale’.
Businesses, both in Male' City and in Hulhumale' are also expected to see profits as a result of the ease in commuting between the two cities. This project has connected Male' City to the national gateway, Velana International Airport and the dream destination of Maldivian youth, Hulhumale'.
