Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has begun maintenance of the government flats in Male' City and Villimale'.
Speaking with PSM News, Media Consultant Ahmed Fazal said housing ministry has begun maintenance of the flats, which will be followed by installation of security systems. A special office will be built to ensure security in, Ahmed Fazal revealed, adding 50 security cameras will be installed to monitor the flats in Male' and Villimale'. Moreover, Fazal expressed painting the buildings will take up to 3 weeks and said the lifts will also be repaired as part of the maintenance of the flats.
Maintenance of Sina-Male', Male' Hiyaa and Villimale' flats were handed over to housing ministry following poor maintenance of flats by Male' City Council. The conditions of the flats were very poor with no waste management facilities and the tenants faced water leakage issues among others, according to the ministry.
Despite the numerous complaints, for years the city council failed to maintain the flats properly.
