Opposition only interested in political posts, not development: Shaheem

Running mate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated the opposition is only interested to gain certain political posts and are competing among themselves, adding there is no opposition coalition.
Addressing the citizens of Foakaidhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, the running mate of the ruling party Mohamed Shaheem expressed confidence President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will win the presidential election with a significant majority, noting the country will be divided if the opposition comes to power. Highlighting the disadvantages of an opposition coalition, Shaheem reminded the citizens of the outcome of the past coalitions. Shaheem said the past proves the opposition is unfit for the presidency, adding the rapid development in Maldives will halt if the opposition wins the presidency. Stating a developed country needs a well-educated and a capable leader, Shaheem said Maldivians must vote a candidate who is well-aware and capable.
Furthermore, during a gathering held at Nellaidhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Shaheem said a group of religious scholars working with convicts and foreign parties to overthrow the lawfully elected government is the biggest betrayal to the country and Islam. In this regard, Shaheem noted foreign parties are interested in the Maldives and seek to eliminate the peace and sovereignty of the country. Noting that President Yameen will continue his efforts to advance the country, Shaheem said only a capable person can face the challenges and overcome the hurdles.
