HDC launches Asia’s first 100% gigabit enabled smart city

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has launched Asia's first 100% gigabit enabled smart city in Hulhumale'.
During the ceremony held in the Exhibition Centre of HDC Head Office, Dubai-based Calix Service was contracted to create the Asia's first 100% gigabit enabled smart city in Hulhumale'. In this regard, the agreement was signed by Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Nasif and Area Vice President of Calix Services Stephan Eyre.
Speaking with PSM News, Managing Director Nasif said the fibre network established under the project will ease the living in Hulhumale'. Meanwhile, Area Vice President Eyre stated the project will also boost the tourism of the country.
In partnership with Calix Service, the network will look at best practice to create a world class infrastructure to capitalise on the youth city vision of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, according to HDC. HDC revealed GPON fibre will give unrivalled opportunities for the youth, with a multitude of smart city services.
HDC extended belief a gigabit society will accelerate foreign investment with new innovative start-ups, global tech collaboration, information technology parks and global companies, and hence, Hulhumale' will drive new economic diversification opportunities for Maldives.
