MACL concludes tarring new runway at VIA

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has concluded tarring the new runway under development in Velana International Airport (VIA). The final asphalt layer has been laid on the runway, according to MACL.
In efforts to complete the runway by August 30, installation of lights and runway signs are underway, Managing Director of MACL Adil Moosa stated speaking with PSM News.
In this regard, Adil Moosa revealed 70% of the runway development project is now complete, adding test flights are expected to commence early next month. Upon completion of the runway project, VIA can accommodate world's largest aircraft on the newly-developed 3,400 metre long and 65 metre wide runway.
The one billion dollar mega project to expand VIA was initiated by the government to enhance the services provided to the passengers.
