Maldives Corrections denies negligence in health services provided for Maumoon

Maldives Correctional Service has revealed it did not neglect providing adequate health services to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who has been imprisoned for obstruction of justice. Maldives Correctional Service made the statement following misinformation spread by the lawyer of the former president.
In the statement, the correctional service stated favourable arrangements were made in Maafushi Prison for former president Maumoon, realising the age and his health. In this regard, correctional service assured it has provided access to doctors and immediate medication services prescribed to Maumoon.
Moreover, the statement noted the former president is kept in a special quarters and that arrangements have been made for visits by the former first lady. Further, the correctional service called to refrain from spreading misinformation regarding the authority.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is currently serving a jail sentence of one year, seven months and six days for obstruction of justice.
