Police refutes allegations of obstructing peaceful political activities

Maldives Police Service has refuted the allegations of obstruction towards peaceful political activities being conducted for 2018 Presidential Election throughout Maldives.
In a statement, Maldives police noted the institution is mandated to and is fully providing all required and necessary security and cooperation without prejudice to all political parties to conduct ongoing campaign activities for the election.
Moreover, the police service stated all necessary precautions and operational safety measures are in place to ensure safe environments to facilitate the smooth running of campaign activities in all the islands in Maldives. Furthermore, highlighting on the use of banners, flags and campaign posters during the campaign activities, the statement stated political parties are strongly requested to adhere to the general principles and code of ethics stipulated in the Elections Act and the regulation on the use of national flag published by Ministry of Home Affairs of Maldives.
Meanwhile, the police force also requested the public to practice and follow all local laws and regulations whilst convening all political activities. The institution reiterated deepest commitment to ensure the security of the nation as well as to ensure a peaceful presidential election in Maldives.
