President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to establish a waste incineration system in Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll if he secures a second term in office.
Ihavandhoo is one of the islands in the atoll which conducts the most number of industrial work, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim noted speaking to PSM News. Noting it is important to have an established waste incineration in the area, the environment minister stated the project will commence if President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom secures a second term in office.
Moreover, Minister Thoriq highlighted waste management projects initiated in the current term, adding the positive results as a result of the projects are seen across the country. The minister noted previous governments attached no importance to waste management, adding issues regarding waste cause health problems and damages the environment.
