Island councils are being notified to issue land: Housing Minister

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has revealed, local councils are being officially notified to issue land from islands where land reclamation projects have been completed.

Slamming rumors by the opposition that plots are not being issued to residents from the reclaimed areas of islands, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated, the government has never issued land immediately after land reclamation. Noting that land will be issued after completing a land use plan, the Housing Minister expressed the plan is now complete. Now the councils have been officially informed to lease land, in accordance with the land use plan, the Minister added.

Furthermore, the Housing Minister assured the housing projects initiated by the government will continue, despite all the criticism and hurdles. Meanwhile, the minister said, government has reserved some land for the construction of flats in reclaimed islands. In this regard, the Minister announced the government's plan to build 4 storey flats in the islands.

The government, in its efforts to ease living and provide affordable housing for citizens, has reclaimed land in 15 islands during President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure.
