Administration will uphold the respect for religious institutions: Shaheem

Running mate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has assured the current administration will uphold the respect for religious institutions in Maldives. The running mate of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom made the remarks responding to comments made by the opposition stating the Islamic Centre built in Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll was being used for political activities.
Speaking at the ceremony held to meet the residents the island, the running mate of the ruling party assured no activities against the religion were held at the Islamic centre or at its premises, adding the construction of the centre has not yet been completed. Noting the opposition commented the ruling party defames Islam, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem said political gatherings were held near the area and assured the administration and the ruling party will continue to uphold Islamic principles and values in the country.
Furthermore, during the visit to the island, Shaheem noted it was only the current administration which brought any significant development to Thinadhoo and hailed the efforts of the government. During the campaign visit, Shaheem further highlighted citizens of Thinadhoo have had bad experiences in the political sphere, adding President Yameen has always attached a high importance to developing the island.
The running mate of President Yameen is currently on a visit to Thinadhoo, where he will conduct door-to-door campaign activities and hold meetings with the residents.
