Maldives has extended condolences to Italy following the collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa, Italy.
In a tweet, Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the news was received with sadness and extended deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Moreover, on behalf of the Maldivian government and the people of Maldives, the foreign ministry wished a quick recovery to all those injured in the incident.
The 50-year-old bridge, which is part of a toll motorway linking the port city of Genoa with southern France, collapsed during torrential rain, sending dozens of vehicles crashing onto a riverbed, a railway and two warehouses. Rescue workers combed through the rubble of Italy's bridge collapse as the death toll climbed to 37 and the government blamed the bridge's private owner, demanding resignations and moving to strip its toll concession.
