Number of cases concluded by superior courts increased 21%

The number of cases concluded by superior courts has increased to 21% in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period of last year.
The superior courts concluded 2,041 cases in the first quarter of 2017, while 2,265 cases were concluded within the first quarter of this year, according to the case management report of the first quarter published by Department of Judicial Administration.
The most number of cases concluded from superior courts were by the Civil Court of Maldives, which concluded 1,038 cases. While the number of cases concluded by superior courts increased this year, the number of cases concluded by magistrate courts also increased 14%, compared to same period of last year. In this regard, magistrate courts concluded 2,583 cases during the first quarter of this year, while 2,521 cases were concluded last year.
Most number of cases was attended by magistrate courts in Addu City and Laamu Atoll, according to the case management report. Moreover, the number of cases submitted to the courts has also increased this year. Citing the cases submitted the case management report states the case clearance rate is at 82%.
